Coca Cola Singapore Teams up with Food from the Heart
Donates daily food essentials to six beneficiary centres, touching 573 families and the elderly nationwide
06/09/2020
SINGAPORE, 10 JUNE 2020 – Sourcing for daily essentials has always been a challenge for the needy and even more so in the time of Covid-19 as Singapore undertook circuit breaker measures. Answering the call to help these vulnerable groups across the nation, Coca‑Cola Singapore has teamed up with Food from the Heart to donate S$21,402 worth of food packs to 573 low-income families and underprivileged elderly throughout the month of May 2020.
The partnership with Food from the Heart is part of Coca‑Cola Singapore’s commitment to support local communities, including in times of need.
Through this partnership, the food packs, containing daily food essentials such as rice, cooking oil, oats, canned food and much more were distributed to beneficiaries from six centres via Food from the Heart’s community partners, namely two Care Corners Senior Services in Toa Payoh, Bishan REACH Family Service Centre (FSC), Woodlands Care Corner Blk 569A, Fei Yue FSC and Marine Terrace Residents’ Committee (RC).
“Covid-19 has changed the way we live and run our business. We are particularly concerned about the impact of Covid-19 on our communities, especially the most vulnerable groups consisting of low-income families and the elderly. Food from the Heart has been providing community food packs to the needy since 2003, which is why we chose to partner with them to reach out to these families, providing them with the daily food essentials. We are doing what we can to stay close to our communities, make a meaningful difference and ensure no one is left behind during this pandemic,” said Sharon Tan, Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Director of Coca‑Cola Singapore.
“This generous donation from Coca‑Cola Singapore is timely. We have not been able to conduct food drives which is our main source of donated food items. Food from the Heart strives to provide consistent and sustained food security for disadvantaged communities. This is even more critical now as Covid-19 has affected employment and many have lost both income and savings. It is partners like Coca‑Cola Singapore that help us remain a reliable source of food for the needy to put food on the table,” said Sim Bee Hia, Chief Executive Officer of Food from the Heart.
Upon receiving the food pack, one of the beneficiaries, Jackie Yap, said: “I lost my income as I have to stop my work during this period. Only my wife is working. We have been very worried about how to make ends meet this month. We have three children to feed, and our grocery bills have increased since we have to cook more. We feel very blessed and thankful to receive this food pack which will help us save money.”
Apart from donations to Food from the Heart, Coca‑Cola Singapore has also redeployed its advertising spending towards supporting Covid-19 relief and response efforts. These funds have been redirected to provide food for vulnerable communities and support for frontline healthcare workers.

About Food from the Heart
Food from the Heart is a charity founded in February 2003 by Singapore-based Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer who were inspired to channel surplus food from bakeries to families in need after they read an article about bread wastage. Today, the independent non-profit is one of Singapore's foremost charitable food distributors that makes a tangible and meaningful contribution to help fight hunger through bread rations and food packs, and bring joy through the distribution of toys and birthday celebrations. With the support of donors, food industry partners and more than 10,000 volunteers, Food from the Heart made a difference to the lives of 44,600 people throughout Singapore by distributing S$6.2 million worth of food in 2019.
