TAKING ACTION ON PACKAGING

Our company offers beverages in a variety of packaging formats – glass and plastic bottles, aluminum cans and refillable packaging. Each option can play a role in helping reduce packaging waste and emissions. We are focusing efforts to use more recycled material in our primary packaging and supporting collection rates, both of which require enabling policies and the growth of collection infrastructure.

We aim to focus on measurable and interconnected actions under two pillars:

Sprite green goes clear for recycling

After nearly 60 years in New Zealand, Sprite’s iconic green plastic bottles switched to clear plastic, making them easier to recycle into new bottles locally.

The switch from green to clear Sprite bottles will increase the likelihood of these bottles being remade into new bottles, meaning that they can have more than one life.

Using recycled plastic to make our bottles

In 2019, we transitioned of all single-serve bottles to 100% rPET (the term used for recycled PET) in New Zealand. This means that all of our plastic bottles under 1 litre and all of our water bottles in all sizes are made with 100% recycled plastic (excluding caps and labels).
